Minister Messahel receives Italian Minister of Internal Affairs.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Abdelakder Messahel received, on 4th September 2017, the Italian Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Marco Minniti, who was on a working visit in Algeria.
In a press briefing after the meeting, Mr. Minniti stated that with Mr. Messahel they had discussed matters relating to bilateral relations, joint fight against terrorism and trans-boarder terrorist organisations as well as stabilization of Libya.
Mr. Minniti revealed that the reports between the two countries “are already excellent”, as he expressed his readiness to strengthen further the bilateral relations regarding strategic issues.
“Algeria and Italy have vital interest in as far as the Mediterranean and especially central Mediterranean is concerned”, he said.
Regarding cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism, Mr. Minniti said that it was “excellent”, adding that the Algerian experience in this area was “precious”.
“It’s a multidimensional approach that takes into account different aspects, not only the fight but also prevention through a strategy” aimed at weakening the threat especially religious radicalism“, he said.
On the Libyan crisis Mr. Minniti affirmed that Algeria and Italy are interested in the stabilization of this country since, “a stable Libya is crucial in the fight against terrorism and human trafficking”.
