Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel signs, on behalf Algeria, the Additional Protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). 15/02/2018

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel signed, on 15th February , in Vienna, the Additional Protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano.

By the signing of this additional Protocol, established in 1997, which constitutes the main international tool for the control of nuclear energy, Algeria confirms, as Mr. Messahel pointed out at the signing ceremony, its commitment to the international regime of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, marked by the  accession of Algeria to the NPT in 1994, the signing in 1997 with the IAEA of the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement & other international instruments such as the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material , the Convention on Nuclear Safety, and, more recently, in September 2017, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, in the conclusion of which Algeria had played a leading role.
